The course deals with the study of development formulation, Dispensing manufacturing, packaging, marketing and utilisation of medicine for the living maters including clinical and Hospital Pharmacy. The student of B. Pharmacy acquire principle techniques of Pharmaceutical Sciences together with associated problems solving skill.
The construction and working of machines used in the formulation and manufacturing are also studied in the Pharmaceutics and Pharm. Engineering.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry deals with organic, Inorganic action/reaction of drugs, intermediates/additives, structure activity relationship, synthesis on laboratory scale and analysis of drugs and raw material by using various analytical methods in the sub Pharmaceutical Analysis.
As drugs of plant origin constitute one of the major part of the medicine system. Pharmacognosy deals with the identification, cultivation collection, isolation of drugs are studied thoroughly. The value addition and updating in the subject is done from new and fast emerging era of Biotechnology and Pharmacogenomics.
The Human Anatomy and Physiology along with pathophysiological and clinical aspects are taught at beginning of the course. The absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of drug/metabolite (Bio-pharmaceutics / Drug monitoring) and mechanism of action are studied theoretically as well as practically in animals and human beings in the third and final year of course under Pharmacology. Other supporting subjects include Drug Store and Business Management, computer Applications and Business Mathematics are also covered in the entire course of Pharmacy at various levels. Thus the major departments under pharmaceutical Sciences are five as follows:
1) Pharmaceutics : (Study of Dosage forms)
2) Pharmaceutical Chemistry : (Study of Chemistry of Drug molecules)
3) Pharmaceutical Analysis : (Study of Analytical Techniques)
4) pharmacognosy : (Study of Drugs of natural origin)
5) Pharmacology: (study of action of drugs)
Examination Pattern
The B. Pharm Curriculum consists of Four Years (Full Time) course approved by all India council for Technical Education (AICTE) / Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) of Maharashtra State and affiliated to University of Pune. It follows annual pattern. The University conducts the annual examination for theory as well as practical at the end of each academic year. However, for continuous evaluation of the students, the three periodic tests, which constitute 20% of the total marks, awarded by the University. The Pune University awards the degree after successful completion of practical training of prescribed duration in pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. The students have to apply separately for registration to the State Pharmacy Council after completion of the B. Pharm. Degree from the University.
